KUVO Program Director to be Honored at Five Points Jazz Festival

jazz89 KUVO 89.3FM President/CEO Alfredo Cruz is pleased to announce that KUVO’s Carlos Lando is being recognized for his significant contribution to jazz this Saturday at 3:30pm at the Five Points Jazz Festival. “This award is timely because as of April, Carlos has been at KUVO for 25 years! I’ve known Carlos for close to 20 of those years and he’s always been one of the most respected and influential jazz programmers in the country.” Cruz added, ”Lando is a big reason for me being at KUVO and I’m proud to be working with him on a daily basis. We’re lucky to have him here.”

Carlos first went on the air in Puerto Rico at the age of seventeen with the Armed Forces Caribbean Network. Lando was on the air in New York at WOUR in 1970, and started “Jazz: Where It’s Been and Where It’s At” in 1977 at WZAR in Ponce, PR. By 1980, his career path brought Carlos to Colorado where he  worked at KDKO, then KBCO. In April of 1987 Lando became Program Director at KUVO where his experience in Jazz, Latin Jazz, and blues has proven to be beneficial to KUVO and the Denver jazz scene.

“For me, it’s a sheer pleasure and honor to hopefully affect a change in our community,” Lando told Bret Saunders of the Denver Post. To read the article click here.

KUVO awards, recognitions, and productions under Lando’s tenure include ”Jazz Station of the Year-Major Market” from JazzWeek; the 4-part series CALIENTE: Latin Jazz with Eddie Palmieri, that aired on almost 300 radio stations across the country; Live at the Oasis CD: recordings from the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio; collaborations and content contributions for NPR’s Toast of the Nation, WWOZ and WNYC; broadcasts with Dazzle Jazz, Vail Jazz Festival, Telluride Jazz, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Arvada Center, and more.

KUVO is delighted that Erica Brown and Bob Montgomery will also be receiving awards recognition for their significant and lasting contribution to jazz, blues and the music culture in our community!

Webcam May Be Down for a While

We were informed today that SkyBeam, the ISP we use on Baldy, has decided to permanently cease operations at our site.  This leaves us without an Internet connection there.  Our webcam depends on an Internet connection to deliver it’s images to you.  We are now exploring other options.  Sorry if you were a frequent visitor to our site to view the images.  We will keep you informed of our progress to bring this service back on line.

KUNC 88.1FM Back on Air

After a few adjustments the KUNC engineers have put KUNC 88.1FM back on the air.

KUNC Engineers Working on 88.1FM

On March 28th KUNC started broadcasting on both 88.1 and 88.7FM in Summit County.  Yesterday they brought 88.1FM down to accomplish some adjustments.  We’ll keep you posted on their progress.  In the meantime, you can still enjoy KUNC on 88.7FM.

Webcam Down

Unfortunately, after making several mechanical repairs to our webcam on Baldy Mountain, and getting pectacular images, our Internet provider has run into difficulties.  Our camera won’t transmit images unless we have an Internet connection at the electronics site.  We’ll make a post as soon as our ISP fixes their problem.

KUNC Improves Summit County Signal Coverage

Beginning today, Summit County listeners who are used to hearing KUNC at 88.3 FM will need to tune in a bit lower on the dial to hear the station’s blend of NPR and regional news and music. KUNC can now be heard at 88.1 FM as part of an upgrade to the station’s service throughout Summit County.

“The mountain terrain provides challenges to FM reception,” according to Neil Best, President and CEO of KUNC. “KUNC is investing additional resources to provide better coverage throughout Summit County.”

Earlier this year, KUNC purchased KMPB, and began broadcasting at 88.7 FM, providing a quality signal to southern Summit County, including Breckenridge.

KUNC has been serving Summit County for more than 20 years through a partnership with Summit Public Radio and TV. With the new station and relocated translator, Best says “We’re excited to have the opportunity to expand our service in one of the mountain communities of Colorado, and will continue work to enhance reception in the area.” Best invites listeners’ feedback at comment@kunc.org.

KUNC serves listeners along the Front Range at 91.5 FM, 102.7 in Boulder, and 91.7 in Golden and the west metro area, along with a network of stations and translators around the state including Breckenridge, Buena Vista, Grand County, Haxtun/Holyoke, Julesburg/Ovid, Leadville, Morgan County, North Park, Salida, Steamboat Springs Sterling, Vail/Minturn & Eagle Valley, Wray, and Yuma.

Webcam Protective Lens Replaced.

Our webcam suffered some damage during the excessive winds experienced this winter.  The protective lens covering was scratched when the webcam broke loose in its housing and the scratch was visible in our broadcasted image.  Gary replace the lens covering and our image now clearly shows the beauty of northern Summit County.  Check it out here.
