Carlos first went on the air in Puerto Rico at the age of seventeen with the Armed Forces Caribbean Network. Lando was on the air in New York at WOUR in 1970, and started “Jazz: Where It’s Been and Where It’s At” in 1977 at WZAR in Ponce, PR. By 1980, his career path brought Carlos to Colorado where he  worked at KDKO, then KBCO. In April of 1987 Lando became Program Director at KUVO where his experience in Jazz, Latin Jazz, and blues has proven to be beneficial to KUVO and the Denver jazz scene.

Greer Performance Studio; collaborations and content contributions for NPR’s Toast of the Nation, WWOZ and WNYC; broadcasts with Dazzle Jazz, Vail Jazz Festival, Telluride Jazz, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Arvada Center, and more.

KUVO is delighted that Erica Brown and Bob Montgomery will also be receiving awards recognition for their significant and lasting contribution to jazz, blues and the music culture in our community!

Erica Brown

Erica Brown is a bona-fide blues woman; she has worked with some of the finest artists in the world, and has shared stages with such heavyweights as B.B. King, Al Green, Delbert McClinton, Tab Benoit, and others. As front woman for the award-winning Erica Brown Band, Erica has thrilled audiences all over the Rocky Mountain region with her band’s brand of soulful blues. Previous awards include: Westword Magazine’s “Best Blues Band,” the Denver Post’s “Best Underground Blues Band” and The Rocky Mountain News “Best of in the Blues Category.” There’s no doubt that Erica is “Denver’s Queen of the Blues.”

Bob Montgomery

An internationally recognized trumpeter and band leader who has been honored with many awards for his excellence in education including: “Teacher of the Year,” “Kansas Jazz Educator & Performer of the Year,” and “Colorado Jazz Educator of the Year.”  Bob Montgomery is a native of Garden City, Kansas. In 1997 he was inducted into the city’s Hall of Fame.  Mr. Montgomery was the President of the International Association of Jazz Education (IAJE) for both the Kansas and Colorado chapters. Montgomery has an international reputation for his outstanding trumpet playing, having played on stage with Nancy Wilson, Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett and many more.

KUNC Improves Summit County Signal Coverage

Beginning today, Summit County listeners who are used to hearing KUNC at 88.3 FM will need to tune in a bit lower on the dial to hear the station’s blend of NPR and regional news and music. KUNC can now be heard at 88.1 FM as part of an upgrade to the station’s service throughout Summit County.

“The mountain terrain provides challenges to FM reception,” according to Neil Best, President and CEO of KUNC. “KUNC is investing additional resources to provide better coverage throughout Summit County.”

Earlier this year, KUNC purchased KMPB, and began broadcasting at 88.7 FM, providing a quality signal to southern Summit County, including Breckenridge.

KUNC has been serving Summit County for more than 20 years through a partnership with Summit Public Radio and TV. With the new station and relocated translator, Best says “We’re excited to have the opportunity to expand our service in one of the mountain communities of Colorado, and will continue work to enhance reception in the area.” Best invites listeners’ feedback at comment@kunc.org.

KUNC serves listeners along the Front Range at 91.5 FM, 102.7 in Boulder, and 91.7 in Golden and the west metro area, along with a network of stations and translators around the state including Breckenridge, Buena Vista, Grand County, Haxtun/Holyoke, Julesburg/Ovid, Leadville, Morgan County, North Park, Salida, Steamboat Springs Sterling, Vail/Minturn & Eagle Valley, Wray, and Yuma.
