In the News

September 1, 2017 —  The Summit Daily ran a full-length article about SPRTV’s need for a new power line and our campaign to fund it.

August 2017 —  Breckenridge Creative Arts Magazine recently ran a great profile of SPRTV.

January 19, 2015 — A January 19 Summit Daily article said the following about the Summit Foundation including $50,000 for SPRTV’s power line replacement project in its 2014 Fall grant cycle:

While some organizations apply for grants every year, others only apply in certain years, when they have a project coming up. Such was the case with the Summit Public Radio & TV (SPRTV), a local nonprofit that keeps Summit County connected to the outside world via antenna television and radio signals. The group was awarded a grant that will go toward replacing 3 miles of cable to the station at the top of Bald Mountain.

“We got huge support, I was thrilled,” said Sue Greene, vice president of development for SPRTV, about The Summit Foundation grant. Though it’s only a single part of the fundraising necessary for the project, knowing that it was approved “is pretty amazing,” she said.

Bugling Elk, Creative Peaks

This post is a special shout-out to Creative Peaks, Inc. – the local Summit County creative force behind the New Look of SPRTV!

SPRTV’s new look is based on a photo of Bald Mountain at noon, graciously donated by Creative Peaks.  The photo was taken by Linda Lee Mirro, from the deck adjacent to her home in Silverthorne, CO.

Although quite small, of course, you can clearly see the SPRTV Electronics Site just off the ridge of Bald Mountain, in the center of the mountain.

Linda’s husband and SPRTV Board Vice-President, John Mirro also donated his time and Adobe Illustrator expertise to turn Linda’s photo into the banner artwork above that adorns our blog (and soon our website and all our on-line presence).

While you’re checking out their remarkable photography, don’t forget to stop by their blog.  Thanks again, to Creative Peaks for all their gracious help.

SPRTV and our radio station partners (KCME, KUNC, KUVO and NRC Broadcasting) are pleased to jointly sponsor the In Sync Concert, to be performed by the National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) and Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra (BMF) on July 30, 2011, 7:30 – 9:30 pm, at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge.

As a special “thank you”, we invite all SPRTV members* as well as supporters of public radio stations KCME, KUNC and KUVO to be our guests at our “Moving Mountains” Pre-Concert Reception at the Riverwalk Center starting at 5:30 pm.  Our program for the pre-concert reception will include interviews with musicians, and an introduction to the evening’s music. The New Look of SPRTV

Posted by on May 18, 2011 in General Discussion | 0 comments

You may have recently noticed a new banner, taglines, menus and background on our blog.

This is part of a major overhaul of SPRTV online and in-print, by the SPRTV Marketing team.  The Bald Mountain image, full Summit Public Radio & TV name, and the “We move mountains” and “Not your typical public radio & TV” taglines will become the new “welcome home” look of our website, blog, Facebook page and Twitter feed.

In addition, the SPRTV Marketing team is working hard on a new flyer with a similar look, that will include, for the first time, a complete guide to all the FM and over-the-air TV stations available here in Summit County.  Of course, we’ll also take the opportunity to remind everyone that SPRTV provides 9 FM and 7 TV stations – that’s OVER HALF of all the FM stations, and ALL of the antenna TV stations available in Summit County! All free and all over-the-air.

Hope you’ll enjoy the changes as we update our calling cards to the world.  If you have any feedback, just comment below – we’d love to hear from you!

New SPRTV Ad Coming Soon

Posted by on May 16, 2011 in General Discussion | 0 comments

Recently, the SPRTV Marketing team created a new 1/4 page ad for the forthcoming Breckenridge Music Festival and National Repertory Orchestra summer program books.  Check out a sneak preview of the new ad before it hits the presses!

New SPRTV Ad for BMF & NRO Summer Programs

This new ad is based on a photo graciously donated by SPRTV Vice-President, John Mirro, and his Creative Peaks Photography studio – taken from the deck adjacent to his home in Silverthorne.  Although quite small, of course, you can clearly see the SPRTV Electronics Site just off the ridge of Bald Mountain, in the center of the photo.

Some quick highlights … This is the first marketing piece since our rebranding session to use our full Summit Public Radio & TV name, as well as our new sprtv.org website address.  We’re also much more prominently reminding locals that SPRTV provides 9 FM and 7 TV stations – that’s OVER HALF of all the FM stations, and ALL of the antenna TV stations available in Summit County! All free and all over-the-air.

We’re so jazzed about the look of this new ad, don’t be surprised to see more of the same goodness as part of our online presence – like the new banner above for our blog.

If you have any feedback on our new ad, just leave a comment below – we’d love to hear from you!

We May Have New Neighbors!

Bald Mountain in Relief - SPRTV Electronics Site located near red marker

The Summit Daily News reported yesterday that the Summit Huts Association is looking to add another new backcountry hut to their collection – potentially located on the north side of Bald Mountain near Weber Gulch.

The proposed Weber Gulch hut, located at 11,500 feet, would sleep 14-18 people and would be accessible by an approximately 3-mile-long trail (gaining approximately 1,200 feet at an average 7 percent grade) - utilizing both new and existing paths.

The trailhead would be located near French Gulch Road where 12-16 new overnight parking spaces would be needed. The new trail would connect with existing trails and, though it would be wide enough to accommodate an ATV and trailer — approximately 50 inches — for hut maintenance, public uses would not include motorized vehicles.
