September 1, 2017 — The Summit Daily ran a full-length article about SPRTV’s need for a new power line and our campaign to fund it.
August 2017 — Breckenridge Creative Arts Magazine recently ran a great profile of SPRTV.
January 19, 2015 — A January 19 Summit Daily article said the following about the Summit Foundation including $50,000 for SPRTV’s power line replacement project in its 2014 Fall grant cycle:
While some organizations apply for grants every year, others only apply in certain years, when they have a project coming up. Such was the case with the Summit Public Radio & TV (SPRTV), a local nonprofit that keeps Summit County connected to the outside world via antenna television and radio signals. The group was awarded a grant that will go toward replacing 3 miles of cable to the station at the top of Bald Mountain.
“We got huge support, I was thrilled,” said Sue Greene, vice president of development for SPRTV, about The Summit Foundation grant. Though it’s only a single part of the fundraising necessary for the project, knowing that it was approved “is pretty amazing,” she said.

Springtime on Bald Mountain
With a new blanket of white this morning in Summit County, and with more powder on the way later today and tonight, we thought you might enjoy this beautiful photo essay of Bald Mountain by Matt Krane.

Digital TV Signals Currently Off The Air
Over the weekend, we were alerted by several of our DTV viewers that SPRTV’s five digital TV stations (channels 10.1-5) are currently off-the-air. While our engineers and technical experts are aware of possible causes, any troubleshooting and repairs can only be performed on-site at SPRTV’s broadcasting center on Bald Mountain.
Unfortunately, the ground conditions going up Bald Mountain are pretty dicey these days – not enough stable snow cover for snowmobiles, and too much snow for 4WD vehicles. We’ll be making every effort to safely get up there and restore our digital TV service as soon as ground conditions allow.
Note that antenna TV Channels 8 (CBS Denver) and 12 (NBC Denver) are not affected by this outage.
SPRTV would like to thank all our free, over-the-air DTV viewers for their patience until service can be restored.
Fall for the Arts Fundraiser a Success
A great big shout-out to Sandy Greenhut’s “Arts for the Summit” non-profit organization – after receiving a $1100 donation last night from the Lake Dillon Theater Company! The Lake Dillon Theater Company generously donated all of last night’s proceeds from a special performance of “Boeing, Boeing” to the Sandy and “Arts for the Summit” organization – as seed money for a major new weekend event, “Fall for the Arts” this Sept. 9-11.
“Fall for the Arts” will be a Summit County-wide weekend of free music, history tours, art presentations, kid’s workshops, theater and much more. It’s hoped that all 23 non-profit arts organizations in “Arts for the Summit” will participate. For more information, click here.
SPRTV will be there with a couple special events. Our “Music on Bald Mountain” event (currently in planning stage) was also mentioned last night as one example of the broad range of entertainment this weekend hopes to offer.
Save those dates; and congratulations again to Sandy and the “Arts for the Summit”!
Board Member Terese Keil in News
SPRTV Board Member Terese Keil was prominently featured in the Summit Daily News today. Her story leads a page 2 article about Summit County foster care families.
Did you know that Terese is an on-call foster parent in Summit County, and has cared for over 100 different children over the past 16 years? Terese’s work here is nothing short of awesome, touching so many lives at such a vulnerable time.
To read more about Terese and Summit County’s foster parent program, click here. This program is currently looking for more foster parents. Typically, most placements have only one child at a time, lasting from a few days to a few months.
We Have a New Home!
Summit Public Radio & TV (SPRTV) now has a new home on the web … sprtv.org
To visit our website, you can just enter sprtv.org and you’ll automatically be directed to our current website at summitpublicradio.org.
We’ve added this second domain in order to provide a much easier-to-remember web address. And to better reference our TV services. After all, we’ve been Summit Public Radio & TV from the start.
You already know “we’re not your typical public radio”. Now our web address says that too!
