In the News

September 1, 2017 —  The Summit Daily ran a full-length article about SPRTV’s need for a new power line and our campaign to fund it.

August 2017 —  Breckenridge Creative Arts Magazine recently ran a great profile of SPRTV.

January 19, 2015 — A January 19 Summit Daily article said the following about the Summit Foundation including $50,000 for SPRTV’s power line replacement project in its 2014 Fall grant cycle:

While some organizations apply for grants every year, others only apply in certain years, when they have a project coming up. Such was the case with the Summit Public Radio & TV (SPRTV), a local nonprofit that keeps Summit County connected to the outside world via antenna television and radio signals. The group was awarded a grant that will go toward replacing 3 miles of cable to the station at the top of Bald Mountain.

“We got huge support, I was thrilled,” said Sue Greene, vice president of development for SPRTV, about The Summit Foundation grant. Though it’s only a single part of the fundraising necessary for the project, knowing that it was approved “is pretty amazing,” she said.

KBCO Repairs Continue This Weekend

Posted by on Feb 4, 2012 in Technical Difficulties | 0 comments

SPRTV is happy to report that Gary and his technical crew believe they are close to restoring FM station KBCO; with the station potentially going back on-the-air sometime this weekend.

If successful, this would be the 4th visit up Baldy to repair the damage from high winds back in early January, that toppled a modular building and an antenna support tower. After 3 visits, Gary and his crew have been able to dismantle and move the damaged support tower, install a new temporary support tower,  remount the KBCO receiving antenna and point it towards Denver.

The final repairs are purely electrical and not mechanical in nature, and will take place in the (undamaged) SPRTV electronics shack on Baldy.

SPRTV again apologizes for any inconvenience, and would like to thank all our KBCO listeners for their patience.

We’d also like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that you can always stream KBCO’s programming online.

UPDATED …

SPRTV is happy to announce that Gary, our VP of Engineering and Site Maintenance, and Colin, will attempt repairs to radio station KBCO this Sunday, Jan 29, weather and safe travel up Baldy permitting.

The delay has been due to issues obtaining the necessary electronics gear to make the repairs, and not weather conditions on Bald Mountain.

SPRTV again apologizes for any inconvenience, and would like to thank all our KBCO listeners for their patience.

KUVO Off-the-Air, Repairs Scheduled

UPDATED …

SPRTV would like to announce that FM/HD radio station KUVO is currently off-the-air.  Electronics equipment owned by KUVO has unexpectedly failed and will need to be replaced.

Unfortunately, significant delays are expected in obtaining the necessary repair equipment (which was ordered right away).

Consequently, we now estimate the earliest that repairs can be attempted is in early Feb, weather and safe travel up Baldy permitting.

Note these technical issues are not related to other station outages caused by wind damage on Bald Mountain back in early January.

SPRTV again apologizes for any inconvenience, and would like to thank all our KUVO listeners for their patience.

We’d also like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that you can always stream KUVO’s programming online.
