September 1, 2017 — The Summit Daily ran a full-length article about SPRTV’s need for a new power line and our campaign to fund it.
August 2017 — Breckenridge Creative Arts Magazine recently ran a great profile of SPRTV.
January 19, 2015 — A January 19 Summit Daily article said the following about the Summit Foundation including $50,000 for SPRTV’s power line replacement project in its 2014 Fall grant cycle:
While some organizations apply for grants every year, others only apply in certain years, when they have a project coming up. Such was the case with the Summit Public Radio & TV (SPRTV), a local nonprofit that keeps Summit County connected to the outside world via antenna television and radio signals. The group was awarded a grant that will go toward replacing 3 miles of cable to the station at the top of Bald Mountain.
“We got huge support, I was thrilled,” said Sue Greene, vice president of development for SPRTV, about The Summit Foundation grant. Though it’s only a single part of the fundraising necessary for the project, knowing that it was approved “is pretty amazing,” she said.

Impressive Image from Bald Mountain
In case you missed it this morning Summit County was enclosed in a low cloud cover. However, our electronics site, on Bald Mountain in Breckenridge, was above the clouds. Our webcam caught the moment. If you’re not a regular viewer of the images posted by our webcam you can start following the beauty here: http://www.summitpublicradio.org/site/netcam2.html
Something Interesting from the Academy of Lifelong Learning
One of our Board members has informed us about an event that might interest you. On November 9th there will be a lecture entitled, “The Future of Government Sponsored Public Radio” given by Max Wycisk, President of Colorado Public Radio. He will share his experiences at KCFR and guide us through the current media frenzy and issues surrounding government sponsored radio.
There will be a charge of $8 for non-members. The lecture will be from 12:15 to 1:15 pm. Call 303-770-0786 for location or check www.AcademyLL.org
Summit Public Radio & TV Sports a New Logo
This week we introduced a new logo for Summit Public Radio & TV. It was designed by a professional graphic designer along with new letterhead. We’ll use these designs on all future publications and correspondence to achieve a consistent look and hopefully a recognizable branding. The logo was based on a photograph of Bald Mountain in Breckenridge where our electronics site is located. The photograph, as seen in the banner for this blog, will continue to be used for the blog, our website, and other publications where a photograph works better than a graphic. The star on the logo, which is actually the “dot” over the “i” in Summit, represents the approximate position of our site on the mountain.
FM & TV Station Outages July 25-29
Summit Public Radio & TV would like to inform folks residing, working and visiting Summit County that 3 FM radio and all 7 free, over-the-air TV stations will be periodically off-the-air this week.
The stations in Summit County affected are:
FM Radio
- 89.3 KCME
- 94.3 KBCO
- 99.1 & 107.1 KQSE
TV (Free, Over-The-Air Antenna)
- 8 analog KCNC
- 10.1 digital KMGH
- 10.2 digital KCNC
- 10.3 digital KUSA
- 10.4 digital KRMA
- 10.5 digital KCFR
- 12 analog KUSA
Periodic outages will be likely during the working hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm, July 25-29.
These outages are due to critical power line maintenance being performed to improve the reliability of SPRTV’s FM and TV translator systems located on Bald Mountain overlooking Breckenridge. Unfortunately, the power line issues to be remedied by this maintenance work did not allow for advanced notice, and must be performed during our short summer season.
While SPRTV has a state-of-the-art, solar-generated power backup system on Bald Mountain for relatively short power outages, these maintenance power outages are simply too long to allow all these stations to remain on the air at the same time.
SPRTV would also like to extend a sincere apology for any inconvenience to our listeners and viewers of these affected stations, and would like to thank everyone affected in Summit County for their patience.
Summit Public Radio & TV is a member supported, all volunteer, not for profit organization that provides 10 FM and 7 TV stations Summit County, CO – including all the free, over-the-air antenna TV broadcasts. More information about SPRTV and an interactive guide to all the FM radio and free over-the-air TV stations in Summit County is available at sprtv.org/guide.
All SPRTV Stations Back On-Air!
SPRTV is happy to announce that our technical gremlins have recently been vanquished. As a result, all our 10 FM and 7 TV stations are currently available over-the-air.
We apologize again for any inconvenience to our loyal SPRTV listeners and viewers, and would like to thank everyone for their patience with various broadcasting issues over the last several months.
