Women of SPRTV: Carrie Benefiel, Board Member

Carrie Benefiel is an SPRTV Board Member, communications cheerleader, and marketing consultant who supports the mission through outreach, messaging, and storytelling.

As part of our Women of SPRTV series, we are highlighting the women behind the signal. With a background in radio and a long-time love of media, Carrie is passionate about keeping communities informed, connected, and included, especially here in the mountains.

Why Carrie Got Involved

Carrie was instantly drawn to the SPRTV Board in 2019, finding an immediate bond with the organization’s mission and the deep dedication of its volunteers.

“The mission just clicked for me right away,” Carrie shared. “But learning that SPRTV is powered by volunteers? That’s what made it personal. It’s incredibly rare and special to see people dedicate themselves so deeply to keeping an essential service going for years and years.”

What She Loves About SPRTV

Carrie emphasized that access to free, over-the-air radio and television matters for affordability and equity.

You would be surprised how many of our neighbors still count on over-the-air signals,” said Carrie. “Not every household has the same budget, devices, or level of service. SPRTV is a lifeline for some, rebroadcasting everything from emergency notices to entertainment. It’s a shared community experience that remains free and accessible. In this day and age, there’s something undeniably cool about that.”

She also feels a deep connection to the place SPRTV serves. “Like many of us, I came here from somewhere else. But Summit County has a way of pulling you in and making you want to stay. The mountains, the people, and the strong sense of community here mean the world to me. This place has given me so much, and having the chance to give back feels pretty extraordinary,” said Carrie. “Now, we just need to get that power back on.”

Her Summit Snapshot

When she is not doing SPRTV things, Carrie is rocking local stages with her band, Mud Season, and spinning weekend morning tunes as a DJ on Krystal 93. She also loves mountain time with her dogs, yoga, live music, and supporting music education whenever she can.

Women Who Lift the Signal

This March, we are spotlighting the women who lift the signal by showing up, staying involved, and carrying the work forward.

Carrie’s involvement reflects the heart and hustle that help keep SPRTV strong. We are grateful to have her on the Board and for the energy she brings.
